About the Anderson Family @ Knockaloe Beg Farm

John & Fiona Anderson have a shared vision for establishing a sustainable enterprise, motivated by a concern for the world we live in, which we want to be stewards of as best we can.
We have 4 children: Zoe, Tom, Kate and Amy, and run our business as a family enterprise. We all spend time with our guests in the house and around the farm; making cups of tea, baking cakes and helping with the animals.
Knockaloe Beg farmhouse is constructed with high levels of insulation and heated by a ground source heat pump, so reducing the need for fossil fuels. After finishing building the farm house, we have renovated all the barns on the site, converting two into self catering cottages and one into a bunk house. We are restoring the 17th century walled garden and have finished the two corner buildings. These may have been fruit stores, beggars cottages or itinerant workers’ housing. We are restoring these in as traditional way as possible with old Manx slates, lime plaster, and reusing floor boards from the old farmhouse. One is let as The Bothy, the other currently has our daughter living in it but will be let out by 2019!
We rear our own free range chickens (and children), manage sheep, pigs, goats, ponies and all sorts of Rare Breed animals. John is very happy for guests to be involved in the farm whether it is helping to move sheep, watching the milking or driving to the top of Peel Hill just to look at the view in the Landrover.
We endeavour to provide breakfasts which are homemade, seasonal and locally grown or reared. Natural products and materials are used throughout the house whenever possible.
